Prelim Reflection
1. What did you find most challenging about recreating your chosen video and why? (remember to think about storyboarding, props, actors, filming, editing, finance)
the most challenging part of recreating our music video was getting the lip sync right, it was very hard to get the lip sync right with the perfect timing of the video as often it would look messy and out of time, this meant that we had to retake a lot of shots to get the right lip sync that looks the most realistic and looked like he was actually singing and knowing what he was doing instead of just standing there clueless as at times that is what it looked like he was doing, in a way this became frustrating but in the end we were able to all achieve something that we were all equally as happy with
2. What problems did you face whilst filming? (consider the logistics, could you get everyone together to film, did you have rehearsal time, were you able to frame your shots effectively, could you convincingly play/mime?)
we had a problem with the battery of the camera, we came to film the camera would not charge and wouldn't film, this created an obstacle for us as we had to waste time looking for another camera with a battery that actually worked, again we did over come this problem but whilst in the moment it was a very annoying problem but it was shortly solved
( Question 3 answered in question 2 )
4. Which problems could you not overcome? (were some instruments harder than others to source, could you recreate the look of an artist, could you dress the set, were some shots impossible to emulate?)
4. Which problems could you not overcome? (were some instruments harder than others to source, could you recreate the look of an artist, could you dress the set, were some shots impossible to emulate?)
we could not over come the problem of recreating the make up look as it was too difficult to do and the person being David Bowie did not feel comfortable recreating the look with make up, so without this we just carried on as there was nothing we could do abut it and it was something that we could get by without and it was still achieveable
5. What next steps are you going to take? (learn how to: film/edit/light/perform/makeup etc)
the next steps i will take is learning how to properly edit the video so we can get it to the highest quality and for it to look the most realistic compared to the actual video, also another step i could take within the group is putting more effort into the person preforming to make them look more like the actual person within the video
A2 Evaluation Questions (Preliminary)
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We recreated a music video therefore in itself we took on the challenge of challenging convections of real media, we took it upon ourselves to recreate the video in the best and most achievable way we possibly could, to do this we considered things like the plain miss en scene and the outfit choice, although it wasn't perfect it was a good attempt to achieve the closest thing possible within the time and with the props and equipment that we had on hand, For editing we used final cut pro this is a proper media product that is often used within the industry as it is very high skilled and complex to use, and it helped us achieve what we could of with our knowledge of the programme
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
i think that our media product could be very effective but we have a downside as it is only one minuet of the video and it doesn't run for the whole thing, leaving us at a disadvantage of the audience not being able to view the whole thing
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
from showing my peers my my group work, i have a mixed feed back, mainly positive with a handful of negatives thrown in, most people have said that it is good for what we have done and the amount of time we had to do it, and they have said that they really enjoyed watching it because it was different and funny and interesting; on the other hand others have said that it isn't close enough to the real thing and there is clear improvements that could be made to make it look better, with these positive and negative feedbacks we can progress on to making our video a lot better for the actual product and but all the positives and negatives together to achieve the best
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
to find the sound Be My Wife we used youtube and from youtube we carefully copied the music video, and David bowies dance movements within the video to capture Charles ( our David Bowie) within the video, we also used youtube to help us create our story board so then we could copy this closely, we used soft boxes for the lights as they allowed us to achieve the right lighting like they did in the actual David Bowie video and it helped create the crisp white background that we were looking for, we also used a video camera to record our music video on, it wasn't as high of quality as it would've been within the actual David Bowie video but we did the best with what we had at hand
